Build and Conquer Workers: Free Workers and Building Demand

Recorded HUDs display total residents and free workers separately. A selected Oil Pump needs four workers, while the Shop panel needs two.

Which workforce information is visible?

Fundo’s housing screenshot shows 10,627 residents and 9,133 workers free. Another city’s values differ. The counter explicitly describes free workers; it should not be replaced by the total population value. The official description also lists workers and population as separate systems.

How do you read a building’s worker demand?

The October 12 Oil Pump panel asks for 4 workers alongside 20 energy and water. The Shop asks for 2 workers alongside 10 energy and water. A two-pump batch would therefore add 8 listed worker demand in that record. That is demand arithmetic, not proof of the number of new residents needed to supply those workers.

For a useful check, note free workers before a completed build, inspect the building’s condition, then read the counter again. Keep other construction paused while comparing so several purchases do not obscure the change. This is a diagnostic method, not a published controlled staffing experiment.

What should you avoid assuming?

The public evidence does not establish a worker-to-population conversion, commuting-distance rule or wage-setting interface. Do not add fictional pay controls or claim every resident is an available worker. Housing may be part of your plan, but current unlock, support and staffing conditions still need to be read separately. Use a housing-category target for city progression and free-worker demand for staffing; they answer different questions.
